La Google de
Alphabet Inc. dijo que este objetivo la hará el mayor comprador corporativo de
energía renovable.
La empresa Google propiedad de Alphabet (*) anunció el jueves
que en el 2017 estará usando 100% de energía renovable para todas sus operaciones
incluyendo sus datacenters y oficinas en todo el mundo, adelantándose así a la
fecha proyectada del 2025 para alcanzar ese objetivo.
Google menciona no solo factores ambientales para decidir usar
solo energía renovable, sino también razones de ahorro en los costos de
energía, ya que en el caso de la eólica los costos cayeron más del 60%.
Google comenzó su camino hacia la energía renovable con un
acuerdo inicial en el 2010, llegando ahora a contar con 19 acuerdos
energéticos, lo que la hace el mayor comprador corporativo de energía
renovable.
Esfuerzos de sustentabilidad similares están hacienda otras compañías
bajo el paraguas de Alphabet.
Otros gigantes tecnológicos están también optando por energías
renovables. Apple ha estado trabajando para convertir a energía renovable sus
datacenters.
La Vicepresidenta de iniciativas del emabiente,
la política y las iniciativas sociales de Apple, Lisa Jackson, dijo en
noviembre del 2005: “El cambio climático es uno de los grandes desafíos de
nuestro tiempo y será necesario determinación e innovación para hacer la tan
necesaria transición a la economía verde”.

Alphabet's Google said the milestone makes it the largest corporate buyer
of renewable energy.
Alphabet's Google (*) on Tuesday
announced it will be operating 100 percent on renewable energy for all its operations by 2017,
including datacenters and offices worldwide, ahead of its previous goal of 2025.
Google cites not only environmental
factors for its switch to renewable energy, but costs savings as the cost of
wind energy has fallen over 60 percent.
Google began its renewable power
trek, with an original agreement in 2010. It has grown to 19 energy deals,
making Google the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy.
Similar sustainability efforts are in
the works for other companies in the Alphabet umbrella.
Other technology giants have been moving
toward renewable energy. Apple has been working to convert its datacenters to renewable energy.
Apple VP of
environment, policy, and social initiatives, Lisa Jackson, said in November
2015: "Climate change is one of the great challenges of our time, and it's
going to take determination and innovation to make the much needed transition
to a green economy."
