MEXICO-EEUU OTRO ACUERDO BILATERAL

MÉJICO Y LOS EEUU HACIA LA EQUIVALENCIA ORGÁNICA.   (English version below: MEXICO AND THE US TOWARDS ORGANIC EQUIVALENCE)

Firman protocolo de funcionamiento del comité mixto ad hoc. paso previo al desarrollo de la equivalencia orgánica entre ambos países.

El Gobierno mejicano a través de la Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentos (SAGARPA) y el Departamento de Agricultura de los EEUU (USDA) establecieron un Comité de Cumplimiento Orgánico  (Organic Compliance Committee), como preámbulo a la firma de un acuerdo de equivalencia para productos orgánicos.

El Presidente del Servicio Nacional de Salud, Seguridad Alimentaria y Calidad (SENASICA), Enrique Sanchez Cruz, y la Administradora del Servicio de Mercados Agrícolas (Agricultural Marketing Service - AMS) de los EEUU, Elanor Starmer, firmaron los términos de referencia para para la operación del citado Comité, como parte de las negociaciones para alcanzar la equivalencia de la producción orgánica entre Méjico y los EEUU.

Se espera que en el 2017 el representante de SAGARPA, José Calzada, y su contraparte en el USDA firmen un Acuerdo de Equivalencia Orgánica, el que optimizará el comercio seguro de este tipo de alimentos entre ambos países.

El acuerdo impulsará los niveles de cooperación e intercambio de información, lo que mejorará la confianza del consumidor en los productos orgánicos y aumentará la provisión doméstica de stos productos para beneficio de ambas naciones.

OBSERVACIÓN DEL EDITOR DEL BLOG: otro paso en la dirección errada. Algún día las burocracias gubernamentales de los países comprenderán que un acuerdo marco internacional de equivalencia sería mucho más práctico, económico y rápido que una multitud de acuerdos bilaterales. IFOAM ofrece esa solución, pero cómo se atreve una organización privada a sugerir a los burócratas oficiales una solución mejor.

MEXICO AND THE US WORKING ON THE EQUIVALENCE OF ORGANIC PRODUCTS (FreshPlaza.com, Latin American Edition, November 07, 2016)

Mexico's government, through the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), established an Organic Compliance Committee, as a preamble to the signing of an equivalence agreement for organic products.

The head of the National Service of Health, Food Safety and Quality (SENASICA), Enrique Sanchez Cruz, and the Administrator of the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), Elanor Starmer, signed the terms of reference for the operation of the aforementioned Committee, as part of the negotiations to achieve the equivalence of organic production between Mexico and the United States.

Expectations are that, in 2017, the holder of SAGARPA, José Calzada, and his counterpart in the USDA sign an Organic Equivalency Agreement, which will optimize the safe trade of these kind of foods between both countries.

The agreement will increase the levels of cooperation and exchange of information, which should increase consumer confidence in organic products and increase the domestic supply of these goods to the benefit of both nations.

OBSERVATION BY THE BLOG’S EDITOR: Other step in the wrong direction: Some day governments’ bureaucrats will understand that an international equivalence frame agreement would be much more practical, economical and rapid than a multitude of bilateral agreements. IFOAM offers such a solution, but how dare a private organization suggest to governments a better solution?
