hidráulica, pero los embalses (que normalmente generan las
dos terceras partes de la energía) han reducido su capacidad por las sequías,
por lo que se está apelando a la energía solar para operar el estadio de

Dentro de un
par de meses se llevará a cabo en Brasil el Mundial de Fútbol. Sin embargo, no
todo es fiesta y alegría, ya que la sequía que azota este país hace que las
alarmas suenen en relación al suministro eléctrico, teniendo en cuenta que
cuando se desarrolle esta cita del deporte habrá miles de personas más en el
territorio. La buena noticia es que la energía
solar fotovoltaica podrá abastecer a los
grandes estadios como es el Arena Pernambuco.
A su vez, Brasil ha dado un gran paso en
relación a las energías renovables, ya que, por
ejemplo, la energía solar fotovoltaica permitirá
suministrar de manera independiente electricidad para las zonas donde se
celebrará el Mundial y cubrirá las necesidades energéticas gracias a los
paneles en los siguientes estadios: Mané Garrancha (Brasilia), Maracaná (Río de
Janeiro), Gobernador Magalhanes (Belo Horizonte) y Pernambuco Arena (Recife).

SUSTAINABILITY AND THE SOCCER WORLD CUP
Brazil is a country with a lot of hydraulic
energy But lately the dams (that
normally generate two thirds of the country’s energy) have reduced their
caoacity due to prolonged draughts, and will be trusting solar energy to
operate the Pernambuco stadium.

In about two
weeks the World Soccer Cup will take place in Brazil. Nevertheless, not all is fun
and happiness, because the draughts that are hitting the country, make the
emergency bells sound in the electric supply, considering that the sport event
will convene thousands of people more in the country. The good news is that the
photovoltaic energy provided by solar generating units will supply electricity for
the great stadiums such as the one in Pernambuco.
Brazil has
given a substantial step towards improving the facilities of renewable energies,
for example in photovoltaic energy generation that will provide selfsustaining
electricity to the areas where the World
Cup will take place, covering the energy needs thanks to the solar pannels
installed in the following stadiums: Mané Garrancha (Brasilia), Maracaná (Río
de Janeiro), Gobernador Magalhanes (Belo Horizonte) and Pernambuco Arena
(Recife).
