GOBIERNO ARBITRARIO VS. CAMPO ARGENTINO
La larga lucha entre los gobiernos ineptos de las últimas décadas de la Argentina acaba de originar una interminable lista de artículos periodísticos de toda orientación y color contra la arbitraria expropiación del predio conocido como la “Rural de Palermo”, sede de la más significativa muestra anual de la Argentina como autoridad internacional en materia agropecuaria.

La medida no por lo inesperada era menos probable. Es el símbolo de la actitud reaccionaria de numerosos gobiernos que a partir de las primeras décadas del siglo XX signaron la declinación de Argentina desde su posición internacional de 7° país del mundo a la incalificable posición actual. La medida se basa en una interpretación abstracta de lo que el gobierno considera un precio vil del legítimamente asignado para el predio por el que un presidente del mismo palo que el actual partido gobernante vendió a la Sociedad Rural Argentina hace décadas.

Desde que en 1875 el Estado lo cedió en uso a la Sociedad Rural Argentina (SRA), el predio de Palermo ha constituido una marca registrada de la ciudad y una caja de resonancia de la temperatura política del país. En sus 12 hectáreas ha cobijado muestras de las temáticas más variadas: ciertamente la Exposición Internacional de Agricultura, Ganadería e Industria que año a año muestra la pujanza del campo argentino, y también otras de las más variadas como de perros, de tecnología, arteBA y la Feria del Libro. Y el temor de los presidentes de turno a una ruidosa silbatina en el acto de inauguración de la Exposicón Rural, la más popular, económica e internacionalmente significativa de ellas, ha surcado la historia del poder político. La lucha por su espacio es un símbolo de la relación que los sucesivos gobiernos mantienen con el campo argentino, una tensión de larguísima data cuyo más reciente capítulo se escribió ayer. 

                                      
La medida es el más reciente atropello – aunque, lamentablemente, tememos que no será el último – del actual gobierno no solo contra propiedad privada, sino al derecho de sentir, pensar, decir y hacer. Los argentinos parecemos haber dejado de lado la virtud de hacer para dar lugar al vicio de reclamar lo que no nos pertenece. Es ejemplo de la “viveza criolla” que nos impulsó a elegir a los gobiernos de las últimas décadas y que no nos fueron impuestos ni por el Capitalismo apátrida, ni por el Partido Comunista ni por los habitantes de Marte. Nosotros los votamos!

ARBITRARY GOVERNMENT VS. THE ARGENTINE COUNTRYSIDE
The long fight between inept governments of Argentina’s last decades gave room for an endless list of news articles of all political orientations against the arbitrary expropiation of the plot known as the “Rural de Palermo”, home of the country’s most significant annual international agricultural exhibition.

The decision, not for unexpected could be considered less probable. It is the symbol of the reactionary attitude of many governments since the first decades of the XXth Century that caused the declination of Argentina, from its position of 7^th country of the world at the end of the XIXth Century down to the present pitiful position. The measure, based on an abstract interpretation of what the government consideres a “vile price” legitimately assigned to the lot by a president of the same political orientation as the present governing party sold decades ago to the Sociedad Rural Argentina, the main representative association of the rural activities.

Since the year 1875 when the State assigned the use of the land to the Sociedad Rural Argentina (SRA), the Palermo lot has constituted the city’s main landmark and a resounding box for the country’s political mood. In its 12 hectares it hosted exhibitions of the most varied subjects: in the first place, the Exposición Internacional de Agricultura, Ganadería e Industria (International Exhibition of Agriculture, Livestock and Industry) that year after year shows the strength of the Argentine countryside, but also several others of the widest themes, for example, dogs, technology, art and the Feria del Libro (Book Fair), an international cultural landmark. And the fear of the presidents on duty of a noisy booing in the opening ceremonies of the Rural Exhibition, the most significant in terms of popularity, economy and international response, has gone all along through the history of the political ups and downs. The fight for the space is a symbol of the harsh relationship that successive governments maintained with the Argentine countryside, a tension of long history whose most recent chapter has just been written.  
                                      

The measure is the most recent abuse – although, unfortunately, perhaps not the last one – of the present government not only against the private property, but to the right to feel, think, say and do. Us Argentinians seem to have set aside the virtue of doing, to give room to the vice of claiming what does not belong to us. It is an example of the “viveza criolla” that led us to elect the governments of the last decades, that have not been imposed to us neither by the “savage capitalism”, nor by the international left, nor by the aliens.
