PERAS ORGÁNICAS DE ARGENTINA

Uno de los principales importadores y distribuidores Norteamericano
de peras orgánicas prevé un panorama muy positivo de ese mercado para las peras
orgánicas de Argentina.

El Valle del Rio Negro, en la región Patagónica del sur de
Argentina, es una de las mejores zonas productoras de frutas del mundo. Las
amplias extensiones abiertas de tierras aluvionales fértiles, fruticultores
altamente profesionalizados, vastas instalaciones de manipuleo, almacenamiento
y despacho, junto con certificadoras orgánicas internacionalmente reconocidas,
garantizan considerables volúmenes de frutas orgánicas de clima templado de
todo tipo y variedad de alta calidad.
Por ejemplo, según un artículo en FreshPlaza (1) la firma Awe
Sum Organics, un importante importador y distribuidor de peras orgánicas en los
EEUU, asevera que esa región es conocida por su producción de algunas de las
peras Bartlett de mejor sabor en los mercados de las costas Este y Oeste de los
EEUU. Además de ser certificadas orgánicas, las peras de Awe Sum Organics también
son certificadas fair trade y sustentable, garantizando la responsabilidad
social en todas las etapas de producción.
Sin embargo, a pesar de sus muchos aspectos positivos, la
producción frutícola en la Patagonia no está libre de desafíos.
Para empezar, el artículo comenta que este año hubieron más
de media docena de tormentas de granizo consecutivas intensas y generalizadas
en todo el Valle. También dice el artículo que se sufrieron huelgas en las
plantas procesadoras en Argentina y una huelga portuaria en la costa oeste de
los EEUU.
También debemos tener en cuenta que el rubro se vio afectado
por una falta de compensación de los costos crecientes con una cotización
adecuada de la divisa.
A pesar de estos obstáculos, David Posner, Presidente y CEO de Awe
Sum Organics dice que “si bien la temporada no estuvo libre de problemas, Awe
Sum tiene suficiente stock de peras orgánicas para satisfacer la demanda tanto
en Los Angeles como en Filadelfia”.

ORGANIC PEARS FROM ARGENTINA
FOR THE US FRFUIT MARKETS
One of the US’s main importers and distributors of organic
pears foresee a very positive outlook for organic pears from Argentina in the US markets.
The Rio Negro Valley in the Patagonia region of Southern
Argentina, is one of the world’s best fruit production areas. The wide
extention of fertile open alluvional soils, higly profesionalized producers, and
vast refrigerated packing, storing and shipping facilities, along with
internationally known organic certtifiers, guarantee high volumes of very high
quality organic fruits of all the températe climate species and varieties. For
example, according to an article in FreshPlaza (1) Awe Sum Organics, a large US
importer and distributor of organic pears, the area is known to produce some of
the best tasting Bartlett pears for the US East and West Coast markets. As well
as being organically certified Awe Sum Organics’ pears are fair trade and
sustainably certified guaranteeing social responsibility at all stages of
production.
Nevertheless, despite of its many positive aspects fruit
production in Patagonia is not free from
challenges.
To start with, the article reports that this year there were over
half a dozen consecutive widespread and significant hail storms throughout the
valley, Also, fruit handlers faced a packing house labor strike in Argentina,
and the west-coast port strike in the United State. Furthermore; the business
was seriously affected by Argentina’s economic situation with rapidly rising
costs along with the government’s foregin currency blockade that did not allow the
exchange rate to follow the increasing costs.
Despite of this adverse situation, “While the season has not gone without
issues, we have plenty of our Awe Sum organic pears for our customers to load
in both Los Angeles and Philadelphia,” reports David Posner, Awe Sum Organics’ President
and CEO.
