Los EEUU son un mercado en crecimiento para los limones pero, a pesar de esto, las exportaciones de limones argentinos a ese destino han estado prohibidas desde el 2001.

Dada esta situación el nuevo gobierno argentino no dudó en actuar e iniciar negociaciones para reabrir ese mercado. El anuncio fue hecho en Washington la semana pasada y fue confirmado por el gobernador de la provincia de Tucumán. “Existen grandes expectativas tanto para nosotros como para los exportadores, pero tenemos que esperar a que se hagan realidad”,  dicen los representantes del sector limonero argentino.

Mientras tanto, la producción de limones para la Unión Europea comenzó esta semana, y aun cuando las lluvias no afectaron la cosecha, sí causaron un retraso en su comienzo. 

Las ventas arrancaron muy bien; el mercado europeo ve a los limones argentinos como una alternativa a los españoles que están alcanzando precios muy altos, por lo que “las expectativas de un aumento de precios son muy buenas. Se espera un muy buen año en materia de volúmenes de venta”

The United States is a growing market for lemons, but, despite this fact, exports of Argentinian lemons to this destination had been banned since 2001. Given this situation, the current Argentinian government did not hesitate to take action on the matter and start negotiations to reopen the market. The announcement was made in Washington last week and confirmed by the governor of the province of Tucuman. Expectations are very high, both for us and for the exporters, but we have to wait for it to become a reality," say representatives of the Argentinian lemon sector.

Meanwhile, the production of lemons intended for the European Union started this week, and while the rains have not directly affected the lemon harvest, they did cause a delay in the start. 

 Sales have started very well; the European market sees Argentinian lemons as an alternative to Spanish lemons, which reach a really high price, so current demand is rising and prices are quite good. We expect a good year in terms of sales volumes."
