Los
representantes de los 27 estados miembros que se reunieron en el Comité
Permanente de la Cadena Alimentaria y Salud Animal de la U.E. (Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health) el 15 de Marzo, 2013, no lograron la mayoría
calificada a favor o en contra de la propuesta de prohibir el uso de tres
pesticidas neonicotinoides (clothianidin, imidacloprid y thiametoxam) en
cultivos melíferos, informó el Europolitics reports. Bajo las presentes reglas de
procedimientos, la Comisión puede ahora o referir el tema al Comité de
Apelaciones o modificar la propuesta.
Nueve países apoyaron la propuesta (de prohibición), mientras que cinco se abstuvieron. Syngenta contenta con la falta de apoyo mientras que Avaaz, una red global de campaña de lobby contra el uso de pesticidas en la UE lamentó la falta de apoyo a la propuesta y criticó severamente a Alemania y al Reino Unido por su respectivas abstenciones.
Según Andrew Pendleton, jefe de la campaña de Friends of the Earth's este resultado significa “todavía una demora más mientras nuestras poblaciones de abejas siguen yéndose a pique. Hay más que evidencias suficientes de que estos productos químicos están ligados a la declinación de las abejas como para imponer inmediatas restricciones en su uso”. T he
representatives of the 27 member states that met in the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health
on 15 March 2013 failed to reach a qualified majority either in favour
or against a proposal for a ban on the use of three neonicotinoid insecticides
(clothianidin, imidacloprid and thiametoxam) on crops attractive to honeybees, Europolitics reports. Under the current rules of
procedure, the Commission can now either refer the issue to the Appeals
Committee or amend the proposal.
Nine countries supported it, and five countries abstained. Syngenta welcomed the lack of support among member states while Avaaz, a global campaign network lobbing against the use of pesticides in the EU regretted the lack of support for the proposal and condemned Germany and the UK for abstaining during the vote.
