POLINIZADORES – UN INDICADOR DE UNA MADRE TIERRA

A menudo
me piden que participe en eventos en mi rol oficial. Otras veces participo
basado en mi herencia, como miembro de la Tribu Mescalero Apache. A veces
los límites se superponen como cuando participé recientemente en la Campaña
Norteamericana de Protección de los Polinizadores que se reunió aquí en el
USDA.
La salud
de los polinizadores está estrechamente relacionada a la salud de los ecosistemas.
Los polinizadores son importantes para los productores de una amplia variedad
de cultivos y para la salud de los bosques. Los Norteamericanos nativos comprendieron cómo estaban interconectadas
todas las cosas. Conté a la audiencia que cuando yo era niño mis parientes
cantaban canciones en Apache. Esas canciones eran sobre cosas de la
naturaleza: coníferas, agua y aún rocas. Todas las cosas estaban relacionadas a
la Madre Tierra: todas funcionan juntas. Y así courre con los polinizadores.

POLLINATORS-AN
INDICATOR OF A HEALTHY MOTHER EARTH by Deputy Under

Often I
am asked to participate in events in my role as a Deputy Undersecretary.
Other times I participate based on my heritage, as a member of the Mescalero
Apache Tribe. Sometimes, the lines blur, as they did recently when I
addressed those attending the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign
meeting here at USDA.
Pollinator
health is tied closely to the overall health of ecosystems. Pollinators are
important to producers of a wide variety of crops, and to forest health.
Native Americans grasp how all things are interconnected. I told the audience
that when I was a boy, my relatives would sing songs in Apache. These
songs were about things in nature: evergreens, water, even the rocks. All
things are tied to Mother Earth: all things work together. So it is with
