Hace cien años la sopa de tortuga era casi un plato diario. Ahora un 62% de las especies de tortugas son vulnerables o están en peligro. En este Día Mundial de las Tortugas, Jaymi nos presenta   11 especies de tortugas en peligro crítico .

Hoy, 23 de Mayo, es el Día Mundial de las Tortugas, un día para celebrar a las especies ancestrales y únicas de especies de tortugas del mundo y hacernos conscientes de la necesidad de su protección. De las 207 especies vivas hoy, 129 se encuentran listadas por la IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) como vulnerables, en peligro o  críticamente amenazadas. Esto significa un 62% de las especies!
Las especies listadas en este artículo son solo unas pocas de las muchas tortugas amenazadas o en peligro crítico. Estas ilustran que, a pesar de que muchas de ellas lucen una coraza, ellas son increíblemente frágiles y necesitadas de protección humana.

A hundred years ago, turtle soup was part of almost every meal. Now 62% of species are vulnerable or endangered. On this World Turtle Day, Jaymi looks at   11 Critically endangered turtle species.

 Today, May 23rd, is World Turtle Day. It is a day of celebrating the many unique and ancient species of turtles and tortoises around the world, and bringing awareness to their need for protection. Of the 207 species of turtle and tortoise alive today, 129 of them are listed by IUCN as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered. That's an incredibly 62% of species!
The species listed here are only a few of the many critically endangered turtle and tortoise species. They illustrate that though these species wear a suit of armor, they are incredible fragile and in need of protection by humans, from humans.
