Junto a la nueva soja transgénica que se presentó ayer en Buenos Aires, en 2013 el país adoptará también un sistema que le garantizará a Monsanto y a otras empresas de biotecnología agrícola el cobro de regalías o derechos por las patentes de sus inventos. Esto implicará un cambio profundo, pues a quince años de la adopción del primer transgénico, los productores nunca pagaron por dicha tecnología. Pablo Vaquero, vice de Monsanto Argentina, anunció junto al ministro de Agricultura, Norberto Yauhar, que la nueva soja "Intacta RR2 Pro" estará disponible en la campaña 2013/14 (en la próxima siembra solo se realizarán ensayos en el norte). Y calculó que la mejoría de los rendimientos podría llegar al 11%. No sería poca cosa: se producirían 5 millones de toneladas más, que al valor actual serían ingresos por US$ 3.000 millones.

Along with its new GM soybean presented yesterday in Buenos Aires, in 2013 the country will adopt a System that will guarantee Monsanto and other biotechnology companies the collection of royalties for their patents for inventions. This means a deep change, since after 15 years of the adoption of the first transgenic, producers never paid for such technology. Pablo Vaquero, vice of Monsanto Argentina, announced together with the Minister of Agriculture, Norberto Yauhar, that soybean "Intacta RR2 Pro" will be available in 2013/14 (in the next season only experimetal sowings will be done in the North). He calculated that the yield improvements may reach 11%. It wouldbe no little thing: 5 million more tons will be produced, that at its present value it will mean U$$ 3 billion more.
