Con el fin de proteger las huertas de Tamaulipas, el Comité de Sanidad Vegetal está produciendo un ejército de avispas de la denominada “Tamarixia Radiata” para combatir las larvas del “Dragón Amarillo”, plaga que afecta a los cítricos.
El presidente del comité, Ricardo Sepúlveda Cantú, explicó que actualmente ya inició la reproducción de las avispas cuya primera generación estará listo para ser liberada en las próximas semanas.
“Para este proyecto el gobierno federal destinó una inversión de 30 millones de pesos para la construcción del laboratorio donde se está llevando a cabo la reproducción masiva de este insecto, que promete ser una herramienta más para el combate de esta plaga”.
Manifestó que hasta ahora este recurso ha funcionado en los estados de Colima y Yucatán, donde también existe un laboratorio similar que reproduce miles de avispas para después liberarlas en los campos citrícolas y disminuir las poblaciones del psílido que transmite la bacteria del Huanglongbing (HLB), que es la enfermedad que destruye a la citricultura.

(N. del E:: HUANGLONGBING significa en chino "enfermedad del dragon amarillo. Es la enfermedad más destructiva que afecta a los citrus. Es causada por una bacteria vascular "CandidatusLiberibacter spp.", que se propaga por insectos y por yemas infectadas (material de propagación).

To protect gardens in Tamailipas (Mexico), the Plant Sanitation Committee is producing an army of the wasp known as “Tamarixia Radiata” to combat the grubs of the “yellow Dragon”, plague that affects citric plants.
The president of the Committee, Ricardo Sepúlveda Cantú, explained that the reproduction of the wasps has already begun, and that the first generation is ready to be liberated in the next few weeks: “For the project Mexico’s Federal Government destined an investment of 30 million pesos in the construction of the laboratory where the massive reproduction of the wasp is being carried on, promising to be another tool to combat this plague”. He said that this resource has already been proven effective in the states of Colima and Yucatán, where a similar laboratory reproduces thousands of wasps that are liberated in the citrus fields, diminishing the populations of the psyllid that transmits the Huanglongbing (HLB) bacteria, the pest that destroys citriculture.

[N. of the E:: HUANGLONGBING means “sickness of the yellow dragon” in Chinese.  It is the most destructive sickness for citrus. It is caused by a vascular bacteria "Candidatus Liberibacter spp.", propagated by insects and infected buds (propagation material]).
