En la región andina se concentra el 85% de las reservas del mundo de este metal alcalino no contaminante que, según los especialistas, será la revolución energética en menos de 20 años. Esta tecnología se ha situado como la más interesante en su clase en usos para ordenadores portátiles, teléfonos móviles y otros aparatos eléctricos y electrónicos.

Sin embargo científicos chilenos y argentinos están desarrollando proyectos para el desarrollo de baterías de Litio en distintas aplicaciones, ya que ofrece la oportunidad de utilizar energía limpia.

Las importantes reservas de litio que se ubican en los Andes de América del Sur en un triángulo definido por el noroeste de Argentina (Puna), sur de Bolivia (Uyuni) y norte de Chile (Atacama), han despertado interés por este mineral y su uso actual en la tecnología de las baterías de ión litio para vehículos eléctricos híbridos (HEVs) y vehículos eléctricos conectados a la red (PHEVs), que aún deben alcanzar la densidad de energía de los combustibles fósiles.

In the Andean region lies 85% of the World reserves of this non contaminating alcaline metal that, according to some specialists, will be the energy revolution in less than 20 years.

This technology is situated as the most interesting in its class for its use in computers, mobil phones and other electrical and electronic uses. Neverthess, Chilean and Argentine sicentists are developing projects for the development of Lithium batteries for different applications, offering the chance of using clean energy.

The important reserves of Lithium located in the Andes in South America, in a triangle defined by the Argentine North West (Puna), southern Bolivia (Uyuni) and Northern Chile (Atacama) have awakened the interest for this mineral and its present use in batteries of Lithium ion for electric and hybrid vehicles connected to the electric net (PHRVs) that still have to reach the density of energy of the fossil fuels.
