La Agencia de Alimentos y Medicamentos de EE.UU (FDA por su sigla en inglés) detuvo 3 embarques de jugo de naranja desde Brasil al detectar en ellos niveles superiores a los permitidos en EE.UU del fungicida Carbendazim. Seis embarques desde Canadá también resultaron afectados.
De acuerdo a lo reportado por la agencia gubernamental se les están realizando pruebas a todos los embarques de jugo denaranja que tengan como destino EE.UU desde diferentes países, así como aquellos que ofrecen los servicios de importación y a los manufactureros locales.
Hasta el viernes 27 de enero se habían tomado muestras desde 80 embarques, en donde 11  resultaron positivas al detectarse en ellas 10 partes por billón del fungicida.
El uso del fungicida no está autorizado para los cultivos de naranjas en EE.UU, pero si está aprobado en Brasil y en otros países.
Según lo publicado en el sitio web del FDA el organismo no ha permitido el ingreso de ningún envío al país hasta que las pruebas y análisis confirmen que el producto cumple con las leyes de EE.UU.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stopped 3 shipments of orange juice from Brazil when it detected higher levels of Carbendazim fungicide than those permitted in the US. Six shipments from Canada also resulted affected.
According to the governmental agency, tests are being made to all shipments of orange juice destined to the US from different countries, import services and local manufacturers.
Until Friday January 27, 2012, 80 samples had been taken, 11 of which showed levels of the fungicide that were higher than the allowed  10 parts per million.
The use of the fungicide is not allowed for oranges in the US, but it is allowed in Brazil and other countries. According to the FDA, no shipment of organce juice are allowed to enter the US until tests confirm that the product complies with the US law.
