Hemos estado siguiendo los inconvenientes del sistema de la educación superior, tratando de bajar los costosos campus universitarios ofreciendo un sistema de módulos online de bajo o ningún costo. Considérese el asombroso éxito de un entorno de clase online ( online classroom environment) ofrecido ahora y replicado por profesores de Stanford, y adoptado por el MIT. Más de 160.000 participantes de todo el mundo se enrolaron en el curso de ocho semanas de Stanford sobre inteligencia artificial básica. Ahora, uno de esos profesores, Sebastian Thrun, dice que está dejando su empleo full-time en la universidad para ayudar a lanzar un nuevo sitio web de educación superior, dedicado a acercar clases online gratuitas a cientos de miles de estudiantes de todo el globo.

Thrun se asoció a David Evans, un professor de ciencias de la computación de la Universidad de Virginia (EEUU) para lanzar Udacity. Los primeros cursos online tratará sobre “Construcción de una Máquina de Búsqueda” y “Programación de un Auto Robótico”.

Las clases comienzan el 20 de Febrero y quienes completen exitosamente los cursos recibirán un certificado emitido por los profesores.

We’ve been tracking the building disruption of the higher education system, now breaking down from expensive on-campus engagements to low-cost, or even no-cost, modularized online offerings. Consider the amazing success of an online classroom environment now being offered and replicated by Stanford professors, as well as being adopted by MIT. More than 160,000 participants from across the world enrolled in Stanford’s eight-week course on the basics of artificial intelligence. Now, one of the those professors, Sebastian Thrun, says he is leaving the full-time employ of the university to help launch a new higher education site, dedicated to bringing online classes, for free, to hundreds of thousands of students from across the globe.

Thrun joined David Evans, a professor of computer science at the University of Virginia, in launching Udacity. The first set of online courses will cover “Building a Search Engine” and “Programming a Robotic Car.”

Classes start on February 20th, and those successfully completing the classes will be awarded a certificate by the professors.
