El Ministro de Salud (Italiano), Renato Balduzzi, a solicitud del Ministro de las Políticas Agrícolas, Mario Catania, ha dado curso al pedido y al dosier dispuesto por el Consejo de Investigaciones Agrícolas (CRA) pidiendo a la Comisión Europea la suspensión urgente de la autorización de cultivo de semillas de maíz MON810 en Italia y en la Unión Europea.
El comunicado pide a la Comisión Europea que efectúe una nueva evaluación completa del MON810 vistas las últimas líneas orientativas y defina medidas de gestión adecuadas que deberían ser obligatorias para todos quienes utilicen tales transgénicos, y que mientras tanto suspenda urgentemente la autorización de cultivar semillas de maíz MON810 .
“Cuando hablamos de la posibilidad de cultivar OGM en Italia, debemos tener bien presente – dijo Catania – que la opinión pública, los consumidores y los representantes de los agricultores expresaron una opinión negativa sobre el tema, y tenemos el deber de ser particularmente rigurosos en vista de los intereses de los consumidores y de los agricultores Italianos”.

ITALY REQUESTS SUSPENSION OF CORN MON810 (from an article published by Bio@gricolturaNotizie 5 aprile 2013)
A press release from the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (MIPAAF) informs that the Ministry requested the urgent suspensión of the cultivation of MON810 corn seeds in Italy and in the rest of the European Union.The Italian Minister of Health, Renato Balduzzi, after the request of the Minister of Agricultural Policies, Mario Catania, sent the petition and the dossier presented by the Agricultural Research Council (CRA) asking the European Union the urgent suspension of the authorization to cultivate seeds of corn MON810 in Italy and in the rest of the EU.
The petition asks the European Commission to perform a completely new evaluation of MON810 following the last guide lines, defining adequate management measures that should be mandatory for all those that intend to use those transgenics, and in the mean time the authorization for cultivation of MON810 should be urgently suspended.
