UN EQUIPO LEGAL TRATA DE IMPEDIR UNA VENTA DE OBJETOS SAGRADOS

 Un equipo de abogados de Survival trató de impedir una subasta de objetos sagrados de la tribu hopi de Arizona en París. Aunque el juez se negó a suspender la venta, el caso copó titulares de todo el mundo. Uno de los abogados de Survival compró uno de los objetos para devolvérselo a los hopis.

El abogado Pierre Servan-Schreiber, del bufete Skadden, Arps, ha declarado hoy: “Es un resultado desafortunado, ya que estos objetos serán vendidos y dispersados, y se reduce enormemente la posibilidad de que sean finalmente devueltos a su verdadero hogar entre los hopis. Probablemente también signifique que las instituciones francesas no tienen muy claras las devastadoras consecuencias que el destino mercantil de objetos realmente sagrados pueden tener para tribus que ya han sufrido mucho”.

UN AÑO DESPUÉS CRECE LA PRESIÓN SOBRE BRASIL PARA SALVAR A LA TRIBU MÁS AMENAZADA

Un año después de que un juez decretara que todos los invasores debían ser expulsados de las tierras de los awás, los indígenas siguen en riesgo extremo de extinción. 50.000 simpatizantes de Survival ya han enviado mensajes al Gobierno y han dejado su marca con nuestro “iconoawá” en todo el mundo.

Las autoridades de Brasil han ignorado la urgente fecha límite establecida para finales del pasado mes de marzo por un juez federal para expulsar a todos los invasores del corazón de la tierra de la tribu más amenazada del planeta. El pueblo indígena awá está en peligro extremo de extinción ya que las autoridades no han tomado ninguna medida para evitar que los madereros y colonos ilegales destruyan su selva.

A LEGAL TEAM TRIES TO STOP A SALE OF SACRED OBJECTS

A team of lawers of Survival tried to stop in Paris an auction of sacred objects of Arizona’s Hopi tribe. Although the judge denied the suspensión of the auction, the case reached headlines throughout the World. One of Survival’s lawyers bought one of the articles to return to the Hopis.

Thed lawyer Pierre Servan-Schreiber, from the law office Skadden, Arps, declared today: “it’s an unfortunate result, since these objects will be sold and dispersed, greatly reducing the chance of being easily returned to their true home among the Hopis. It may also mean that the French institutions do not have a clear image of the devastating consequences that the commercial destination of really sacred objects can have for tribes that have already suffered a lot”. One year after a judge decreed that all invaders should be expelled from the Arawas’ lands, the natives continue in extreme risk of extinction. Survival’s 50,000 sympathisers have already sent messages to the Government and have left their mark in our “iconoawá” in the whole World.

The Brazilian authorities have ignored the urgent limit date of the end of last March by a federal judge to expel all invaders of the heart of the land of the World’s most endangered tribe  (la tribu más amenazada del planeta). The Arawás native people is in extreme danger of extinction, since the authorities have not taken any measure to prevent that the ilegal loggers and farmers destroy their Forest.
