La potencia solar constituyó el 100% de la nueva energía de la red eléctrica de los EEUU en Marzo del 2013 – de una matriz energética que incluye carbón, gas natural, petróleo y una variedad de otras fuentes de energía renovable. Los 44 megawatts añadidos en un mes por la energía solar a la red fueron las únicas nuevas fuentes de energía en un mes en el que no se vieron que otras fuentes proveyeran nueva energía a la red, según la Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. En los primeros tres meses del año, la energía solar proveyó 537 megawatts de nueva generación, solo segunda a la energía eólica con 958 megawatts.

“Desde el 2008 la cantidad de energía solar provista a los hogares, negocios y bases militares creció más del 600%, según reporta la Asociación de Industria de Energía Solar de los EEUU”, según el  U.S. News and World Report, “subrayando la proyección de que la energía solar será la mayor nueva fuente de energía en los próximos cuatro años”.

Solar power accounted for 100 percent of new energy on the U.S.’ power grid in March 2013 - an energy matrix that includes coal, natural gas, oil, and a variety of other renewable sources of energy.

Notably, the 44 megawatts added by solar power were virtually the only source of new energy in a month that did not see any other sources provide new energy to the grid, according to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. In the first three months of the year, solar accounted for 537 megawatts of new generation, second only to wind power’s 958 megawatts.

“Since 2008, the amount of solar energy powering U.S. homes, businesses and military bases has grown by more than 600 percent according to the Solar Energy Industries Association,” according to U.S. News and World Report, “underscoring projections that solar will be the nation’s largest new source of energy over the next four years.”
