El 6 de Julio el USDA anunció haber recibido solicitudes para
lograr el status de no regulados de nueve plantas transgénicas bajo su nuevo y “mejorado”
proceso regulatorio. OCA (Organic Consumers Ass., EEUU) lanzará una campaña de
alertas en cada uno de esas peticiones en las próximas semanas.
Una de las nuevas sojas solicitadas es la soja tolerante al 2,4-D de Dow. El 2,4-D es el agente naranja de lamentable recuerdo usado durante la guerra de los EEUU en Vietnam. Hoy es el 3er más usado herbicida en los EEUU y uno de los más mortíferos.

Al presente no se usa mucho 2,4-D en soja. Pero una vez que la
Soja Agente Naranja irrumpa en el mercado el uso de este pesticida tóxico va a
incrementarse violentamente, dado que esa soja será genéticamente modificada
para tolerar dosis masivas del producto químico.
El Agente Naranja de la Dow va a ser desastroso para la economía
agrícola y peligroso para la salud pública.

On July
6th the USDA announced petitions for nonregulated status for nine new GMO
plants under its so-called "improved" regulatory process. OCA will be
launching a campaign of alerts on each of these new petitions in upcoming
weeks.
One of the new GMOs is Dow's 2,4-D tolerant soybean. 2,4-D is an herbicide component of the infamous chemical weapon Agent Orange used during the U.S. war on Vietnam. Today, it is the third-most-used US herbicide and one of the most deadly.

Currently,
not much 2,4-D is used on soybeans. Once Dow's new Agent Orange Soy hits the
market, however, use of this toxic pesticide will skyrocket, as the new plants
are genetically modified to survive massive doses of the chemical.
Dow's
Agent Orange Soy would be disastrous to the farm economy and dangerous to
public health.
The
deadline for public comment on these new GMOs under the new fast-tracked process
is September 11, 2012
