DSESCALIFICACIÓN DE LA ROTENONA

No es
más posible comprar o utilizar el cotrovertido extracto vegetal obtenido de
las raíces de plantas tropicales de la familia de las leguminosas, usado en
el pasado como medio de control biológico de problemas en las plantas.
El
Comité Permanente Europeo re-evaluó el riesgo relacionado con el uso del
insecticida-acaricida, en un primer momento incluido en el Anexo de los
antiparasitarios de origen vegetal admitidos por el reglamento CE 889/2008, debido
a su fuerte impacto ambiental por su elevada toxicidad para los peces y la
entomofauna útil y por la ligera toxicidad para los mamíferos, incluido el
hombre.
Respecto
de la revocación de las autorizaciones a la puesta a la venta de buena parte
de los agrofármacos que contienen rotenona, ya en el 2008, y algunos
preparados que contienen el principio
activo (entre otros Rotena-43, Rotena, Show Top) fue concedida una prórroga a
la autización al comercio hasta el 30 de abril del 2011, pero siempre con las
etiquetas adecuadas a los usos esenciales (limitados al empleo en manzana,
pera, durazno, cerezas, vides y patatas). La venta y uso de los stocks
existentes en esa fecha fueron autorizados hasta el 30 de abril del 2012,
fecha después de la cual no será más posible mantener y menos utilizar ese
insecticida.

It is
no longer possible to buy or use the controversial plant extract obtained
from the roots of tropical plants of the leguminous family, used in the past
as a biologic control method for plant pests.
The
Permanent European Committee re-evaluated the risk of the use of this
insecticide-acaricide, that in the first moment was included in the Annex
about anti-parasities of plant origin, admitted by the Reg. CE 889/2008. The
reevaluation showed the product’s strong environmental impact due to its high
toxicity for fish and the useful enthomofauna, and for its slight toxicity
for mammals, humans included.
Considering
the high number of agro-pharmacos containing rotenone and/or its active
components (among others Rotena-43, Rotena, Show Top) an extention was
awarded of the authorization for its sale in commerce until April 30, 2011,
always with the adequate labelling for its essential uses (limitted to
apples, pears, peraches, cherries, grapes and potatoes). The sale of existing
stocks was furthermore approved until April 30, 2012, date after which it
will not be permitted the sale or use of the insecticide.
