Supplies of domestic and imported organic apples are running out sooner than usual this season. Retailers have done a better job of showcasing and promoting organic apples in recent years, which has helped stimulate demand, said Roger Pepperl, Wash.-based Stemilt Growers marketing director. But the short supplies this year also can be traced to a slowdown in new acreage, he said. The industry went through a period, Pepperl said, where acreage grew faster than demand. Now, the pendulum seems to have swung in the other direction.

La provision de manzanas orgánicas domésticas e importadas se están acabando más tempranoque de costumbre en esta temporada.  En los últimos años los comerciantes hicieron un major trabajo exhibiendo y promocionando las manzanas orgánicas, lo que ayudó a estimular la demanda, dijo Roger Pepperl, director de marketing de Stemilt Growers, del estado de Washington, EEUU. Pero la oferta más escala este año también puede relacionarse en un menor número de nuevos productores, dijo.

El ramo pasó por un period en el que las superficies plantadas habían superado a la demanda, dijo Pepperl. Ahora el péndulo parece haberse vuelto en el otro sentido.
